BlizzCon 2008: 10-11 October
-
Tickets will soon be going on sale for BlizzCon 2008, to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center from 10-11 October. Ticket cost will be $100. This year, the event has expanded to 3 halls (up from 2), which should accommodate more attendees (this event sold out within weeks the past two times). No word yet on the giveaways; expect lots of hype for Wrath as well as developments in the Starcraft franchise. For more info, see the official press release.

Forums Offlined
-
Due to a number of issues with spam posting and the high percentage of unrelated articles (and ’cause our hardworking site admin was getting tired of deleting the various solicitations), we’ve offlined the forums for now. We’re searching for a new and better way for guildmembers (old and new) to stay in touch. Stay tuned!

2.4 AddOns
-
The addon update rush is on! Some of the first out the gate include:
Note that due to a major overhaul of the combat text system, many damage meter addons will take rewriting to function again. Some mods (DamageMeters for one) are being dropped due to this. Keep an eye on the interface sites to see if your favorite one reemerges!

Sunwell (Re)opens for Business!
-
Patch 2.4.0, the Fury of the Sunwell, is now downloading to a client near you. This introduces the new Sunwell Isle area, with lots of new quests and new 5- and 25-player instances.
- New neutral faction: Shattered Sun Offensive with a new set of daily quests (and an increase in the daily quest limit to 25)
- Instant credit for honor (no need to wait for rollover!) and elimination of the diminishing returns for repeat kills
- Over 50 new recipes! (Site and Reagent Data will be updated tonight), and a move of the Scale of the Sands gem cuts to the Shattered Sun Offensive vendors
As usual, the full patch notes may be found here. Happy questing!

Happy Winter Veil
-
Grab your presents while you can; the Winter Veil season ends with the New Year. Around Greatfather Winter’s tree in Orgrimmar and Ironforge, the Winter Veil elfs (well, probably goblins) have placed presents for all good little adventurers. New this year is a sixth present, a Winter Veil Gift, containing a new pet - a wind-up Clockwork Rocket Bot toy!
Also note that if you didn’t get the free recipes sent to you at the start of the season, you can purchase them from the Smokywood Pastures’ vendors in Orgrimmar and Ironforge. Since the vendors are neutral, it should be possible to get the opposing faction winter clothes recipe by raiding the opposing city (we haven’t tried this, but let us know if it works! :)).
A bright, blessed, and safe Winter Veil season to all!

Zul’aman Changes
-
Just in time for the weekend, lots of AddOns have been updated for the new patch:
- Fizzwidget’s TrackMenu functionality was so good it’s now part of the 2.3 interface (so you should remove the AddOn), and he’s updated his other AddOns, including AdSpace, Disenchant Predictor, Faction Friend, Feed-o-matic, Gemologist, Hunter’s Helper, Reagent Cost, and Levelator
- The ever-responsive Telo has updated his plugins, includine InfoBar
- Archarodim’s Decursive
- Advanced Tradeskill Window
- Sutorix’s indispensable Fishing Buddy and related plugins
- Guild-maintained versions of QuestRep, Reputation, and CraftInfo have just been updated to the latest version code (20300)
- And our version of ReagentData has been updated with all the new and changed recipes for the current patch!
Some of the other 2.3 changes now updated on our pages:
Winter Veil
Winter Veil is coming soon. New this year on the test realms were mail messages from Greatfather Winter providing recipes for (285) Winter Boots to leatherworkers and (250) Winter Clothes to tailors (Alliance toons got a recipe for red clothes, Horde toons got green).
Reputation
- Vendors now give improved discounts for higher reputation levels (so now there’s actually a benefit to getting to Exalted with your own faction!):
- Friendly: 5%
- Honored: 10% (unchanged)
- Revered: 15%
- Exalted: 20%
- The new outpost of Mudsprocket in southern Dustwallow Marsh has additional quests for Gadgetzan rep.

- Alchemy: New recipe: (335) Mad Alchemist’s Potion (Trained, MinLvl: 60, Alchemy (315), Use: Restores 1650-2750 mana and health, can grant random elixir buff)
- Blacksmithing: Sharpening Stones and Weightstones now last 1 hour (up from 30 min), and weapon chains no longer grant immunity from disarm, just a 50% reduction in the duration.
New recipe: (345) Adamantite Weapon Chain (World Drop, Blacksmithing (275), Use: Attaches a chain to your weapon, reducing the duration of Disarm effects by 50% and increasing your Parry rating by 15)

The Gods of Zul’Aman Goes Live
-
Patch 2.3 has hit the live servers. Stay tuned for updates and impacts (and AddOn patching!). Among the most dramatic changes for crafting are:
- Elimination of Journeyman, Expert, and Artisan trainers. All capital cities have a Master-class trainer who can train up to 300 skill - no more Uldaman runs for you enchanters! All trainers outside the capital cities have been similarly upgraded.
- Items which had only +healing effects now also have 1/3 the effect for +damage as well.
- Item buffs (sharpening/weight stones, wizard and mana oils) now last 1 hour.
- Addition of several new recipes, including engineer-made flying machines.
Also, for those who love ‘em, there are a couple of new pets - the azure whelpling dropped by blue dragonkin in Azshara and the tiny spore bat available at Exalted reputation with Sporeggar.

A Look Ahead at 2.3
-
Now that 2.2 is safely out (and we’re living it up at Brewfest), the PTRs will be headed to 2.3. One of the significant changes to 2.3 is a revamp of Alterac Valley. The majority of the PvE content is coming out of the Battleground, and the focus will be directed more on the strategic management of resources and team play - keeping your teammates alive will be a key factor in winning now. And, yes, they’ve made the Marshals aggro-linked to Van, so that particular issue will be solved. But gameplay will be significantly different. (forum post)
