Sons of Hodir
The Sons of Hodir are a race of frost giants inhabiting the eastern Storm Peaks. Their main settlement is Dun Niffelem, where their current king, Jokkum, holds court. In ancient days, they were allies of the Stormlord Thorim and the other frost-born races of the Storm Peaks. Thorim's brother, Loken, murdered Thorim's wife and framed the frost giants for the crime, leading to the great battle of Thunderfall, just northeast of Dun Niffelem. That battlefield is still haunted by the spirits of slain giants and Frostborn dwarves. The Sons of Hodir have been rebuilding, attempting to survive the incursion of Jormungar worms and Stormforged dwarves into the region.
They are suspicious of outsiders and thus begin as Hated. It requires the intervention of Thorim himself to thaw the ice with the frost giants.
Their name is probably homage to the Norse Hodur (or Hod), the Aesir deity of darkness and winter.

Quests
In order to begin the quests leading to Sons of Hodir reputation, you need to start with the Hyldnir, a clan of female frost vrykul. The starter quest is "[79] They Took Our Men!" given by Gretchen Fizzlespark in the inn in K3, Storm Peaks. This begins a lengthy quest chain (over 3 dozen quests!) that will lead you to prominence among the Hyldnir and a fateful meeting with Thorim the Stormlord. The chain ends with "Mending Fences" and "A Spark of Hope" which bring you to 2000/3000 Neutral with the Sons of Hodir.

Repeatable Reputation Quests for the Sons of Hodir
| Quest |
Given By |
Description |
Reward |
Hodir's Tribute Obtainable at Friendly | Lillehoff, Dun Niffelem | Offer 10 Relics of Ulduar | 250 rep |
Everfrost/Remember Everfrost! Obtainable at Friendly | Everfrost Chip (ground spawn) | Deliver the Everfrost Chip to Calder at Dun Niffelem | 350 rep, 6.5g |
| The best way to find Everfrost chips is to ensure that you have Gatherer and GathererDB (or other gathering support addon that has locations for Everfrost chips) and fly the circuit around the valley from Fjorn's Forge to Brunnhildar village (including around Thunderfall). Look mostly at the edges of the area - Everfrost chips do not sparkle, but they will show the gear cursor on mouseover. Decreasing ground clutter and increasing view and object draw distance help, as does increasing shadow quality (to ensure the chips cast a shadow). The chips are relatively small and easy to miss. Current consensus is that there are 2-4 which spawn at any time around the valley. |
| Hot and Cold | Fjorn's Anvil, Dun Niffelem | Collect 5 Frozen Iron Scraps | 250 rep, 7.4g, 22050 xp (13.23g) |
| Polishing the Helm | Hodir's Helm | Collect 5 Viscous Oils from the Hibernal Cavern | 250 rep, 7.4g, 22050 xp (13.23g) |
Spy Hunter Obtainable at Honored | Frostworg Denmother | Slay 3 Stormforged Infiltrators | 350 rep, 7.4g, 22050 xp (13.23g) |
| The Corpse of the Fallen Worg is located near the Hibernal Caverns (57.3, 64.1). You just need to follow the worg around (while avoid worms) until it sniffs out the L78-79 mobs. If there are multiple worgs active in the area, make sure you target (click on) your worg upon summoning to make it easier to follow. |
Thrusting Hodir's Spear Obtainable at Honored | Hodir's Spear | Slay a Wild Wyrm | 500 rep, 14.80g, 27550 xp (16.53g) |
This quest opens once you've achieved Honored standing and completed "Raising Hodir's Spear." You need to stake out a spot in the valley and hurl the spear at a wild wyrm as it flies by. You will then be picked up and have to try to stab it with the spear while you cling to the wyrm. The first phase of the battle lasts until the wyrm reaches 25% health. A successful tactic seems to be to use primarily spear thrusts, while frequently tightening your grip to keep the grip buff above 40ish (alternating 1-3). Use the mighty thrust (4) whenever it's off cooldown. When you get the warning that the wyrm is clawing, dodge the claws if the ability is not on cooldown (2). It's a good idea to have some HoT going (Fel Armor, Troll's Blood potions). In the second phase, you need to pry its jaws open and thrust the spear into its open mouth. To be certain of the thrust succeeding, you need to raise the buff to 20 (5% chance per pry). Most have reported that getting the jaws half open (buff at 10) is an acceptable risk. Note that if the wyrm kills you in Phase 2, you suffer no equipment damage, while if you die by falling in Phase 1, you do. Try to have some form of slow fall available. |
Feeding Arngrim Obtainable at Revered | Arngrim the Insatiable | Use Arngrim's Tooth to disembody 5 Roaming Jormungar and weaken them for Arngrim to eat | 350 rep, 7.4g, 22050 xp (13.23g) |
Practical Notes
The Sons of Hodir provide the shoulder enchants for Northrend, more powerful than the Aldor/Scryers enchants of Outland, as well as the Ice Mammoth mounts. The quest chain that leads to the Sons also opens up a daily quest for the Hyldnir in nearby Brunnhildar Village, for those looking for more daily opportunities in the area (a possible quest reward from the Hyldnir daily is a polar bear mount).
The dailies are good to run just for the gold rewards. Most of them are relatively quick (in the realm of 10ish kills). Those who don't have slow falling gear or who have issues completing the Wyrm killing quest should just skip it, as it can be an issue for those who don't have the right rhythm.
Patch 3.0.8 adds the turn-in quest "Hodir's Tribute" to redeem 10 Relics of Ulduar for 250 rep. Building rep can be quite quick, especially since almost anything in Storm Peaks has a chance to drop Relics of Ulduar. A stack of 200 Relics yields 5k rep. This seems to be more time efficient than searching for Everfrost chips.
